The organization is challenging everyone to participate in a sponsored walk, aiming to collectively cover a distance of 99 kilometers to support the dogs being cared for at their rehoming centre in Newton Tony.

This initiative is critical in raising funds for the charity, which revealed that it spends an average of £2,000 on the care of each dog. With the rising costs associated with animal welfare, particularly amidst the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, the need for financial support has never been greater. The Newton Tony centre is currently operating at full capacity and faces a growing waiting list of dogs in need of care and rehoming.

Neil Barker, Operations Manager at the Newton Tony centre, shares insights into the challenges faced by the organization. Many dogs have been surrendered due to their owners’ inability to afford necessary veterinary care. As a result, the Dogs Trust has stepped in to provide for these animals, which involves significant expenditure on veterinary procedures, treatments, and overall welfare.

To address these pressing needs, Barker encourages all dog lovers to join the 99k for canines challenge. He emphasizes that even small contributions can make a big impact: “Every pound raised is a significant contribution.”
